Impetvs Parthians

After sorting out my 15mm Essex lead mountain figures, and to be different for a change :o) I manage to find and paint up - 5 Units of CL (Horse Archers - 4 figures per base/unit) and 2 Units of CP (Cataphracts - 8 figures per base/unit) The Heavy cavalry figures I used are 8 x PA5 Parthian: Armenian Cataphract , 4 x PA1 Parthian: Cataphract , 4 x SA2 Sassanid Persian: Cataphracts The Horse Archers are 16 x PA2c Parthian: Horse Archers firing to the side and 4 figures x  PA2a Parthian: Horse Archers drawing arrow

anyway on to the figures and their large Impetvs bases! (8cm x 6cm)

  1. Stunning work again, Phil. They are all impressive, but I like the fully armored guys a lot. The scale on the horses looks superb. The scultping is very impressive too - love the horse turning its head back.

    1. Thanks Dean. I like the Cataphracts so much so, I'm thinking of putting together the other 6 Units and 1 extra CL horse archers according to the Impetvs Rules set army list....

oh blast, :o( just notice some of the pictures turned out blurry

  2. Another army of horsemen so soon? This army looks brilliant especially with the large Impetvs sized bases and the very arid looking ground cover. Oh, the composition of the mounted archers is really good!

    Excellent work!

:o) umm..er..I'm thinking of re-basing my 28mm Napoleonic Saxons to the Impetvs style basing system, like you did with your Napoleonic Peninsular War Units?

During winter I prepared my figures, prime under coat about 1400 15mm - 28mm figures, for spring/summer painting ;o) sessions.

    1. I thought it would be a little bit boring to post yet another DBA army so, do be different, mounted the figures for Impetvs even though the bases are little to big, I like the look of the bases which have more room for flocking (terrain effects) etc.

So, Yes :o) switching over to Impetvs! :o)

Thanks Christopher, all the best to you sir!

    2. Again they look great and looking forward to seeing more Impetus armies! Your DBA armies looked good too btw, but I do have a preference for the Impetus look.

    3. I know you love Impetvs rules set Christopher!, I do too. Basic Impetvs are a little better than DBA rules, quick game play with interesting results. Full Impetvs rules (and armies) tend, not all the time, to bog down the pace during table top gaming, just like DBM-DBMM, I dislike DBM-DBMM :oP

  13. Hark! I hear the thunder of hooves pounding across the steppes just looking at them. Great looking army, Phil, and although I use exclusively WRG element basing mnyself, I have to say the larger bases do look good!

    1. Thanks Pete, I know what you're saying, you are talking about :o) WRG (DBM or DBMM?) elements base system? I find a little time consuming and cumbersome moving numerous elements across the table top with WRG #Edition's - Don't you?

      all the best,

  20. Wow! So impressive on the Impetus sized bases. Inspiring.

I also preferred Basic Impetus to the full Impetus, though of late I've played much more Art de la Guerre. I must try to get back to BI.

I like Basic Impetus which are little quicker than Full Impetus in terms of game play...

Finally got my extra 15mm Essex Parthian Cataphracts packs, will be working on the figures next week to finish off this "nasty" :o) looking Cavalry Army ;o)
