I replaced the essex lead spears with real :o) steel wire for the Triarii, the figures look a little better, also trying out a better flocking method of bases....... umm...Soon I will post 2 more 15mm painted Armies, Camillian and Marian Romans.
Very nice work Phil!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christopher!
DeleteAnother beautiful army Phil. How easy were the spears to replace? Drilling out the hands can be difficult at times. Did you use a pin vice?
ReplyDeleteWell worth doing for the Triarii though as it has made them look far more impressive, as should be the case.
I find in DBMM these guys don't fare at all well against the Gallic Warbands, and far worse than they did in historical terms.
Thanks Lawrence! I drilled a hole near the foot of the figure and push the steel pin/spear in the hole and slightly bend the wire close to or in open hand of the Triarii and add super glue, same method I used for my 15mm Xyston Successor pikemen.
ReplyDeleteI agree any spearman (Sp) usually have slim chances survining vs warands and blades during melee, unless you have the odds or numbers 2 elements vs, one warband element.... sometimes I find boring playing games with both sides are nothing but spearmen i.e. Hellenistic city state Hoplite armies just slog fest of combat rounds, with continues push backs, advance, recoil etc etc :o)
Great army Phil. I'm right now in the process of painting a Polybian Roman army as well. You can find lots of historical scenarios for Romans from Connor Truby in the DBA group.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will check out Connor Truby at the DBA group = looking foward to your Polybian Romans as well..... cheers!
DeleteI'll also put comparative shots of Cromarty and Essex Polybian Romans ;-)
Deletewe must be looking at different DBA groups sites, which one are you visiting? what is the website? :o)
Deletecheers!
You did them... and right handsome they are! Obviously the sacred chickens were eating that day, and as for the vestal virgins, well the less said there the better, perhaps?! SPQR!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter!
DeleteLol ...... It seems the omens were in our favor! When the sacred chickens feed greedily, the gods have clearly given their nod to our endeavors, I think? :o)
Beautiful work Phil!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal, Camillan Romans coming up soon! :o)
DeleteInteresting showcase and beautiful job on these Romans!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil!
Deleteyeah :o) I added extra info for my armies so people would know who fought whom etc.
Splendid looking army.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard, currently working on my Roman Theme which is a frist time for me, never painted Romans before until now/beginning of this year..... cheers!
DeleteLovely looking republican Romans!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain!
Deletecheers!
