Before I started working and drilling the figures, I wash, yeah I know washing lead!) :o) the minis with detergent to get rid of the factory and casting mold dust....
Drilling holes through the hands of the Pikemen was, well, a pain in the backside :oP
Yesterday I forgot to include the photos of the Landsknechts Artillery crews figures. you get 20 miniatures in a bag and most of them look great.
very interesting what you will find in this artillery pack. you get 4 pikemen (perhaps as Artillery Standard bearers?) standing, 1 Artillery commander and two guys have assorted weapon Hands to choose and insert from one of 8 weapons available within the pack.

I have to agree, drilling and attaching pikes is a pain... but much better than the old soft cast ones that inevitably bend, corkscrew, and break with time!
ReplyDeleteyeah I know what you mean regarding to the soft castings Pete, Also, the wire pikes tips are/were so sharp I had to file the ends down a bit before attaching to the figures..

DeleteSeeing all those pikemen at the side of your drill brings back some memories, yeah real pain ,but its a plus once you have got the pikes on the old glory figures, you know they are staying in their hands!

Well I would recommend Pete's flags, which are the ones i used on my Swiss, I also have his sheet of Landsknecht banners and they are the best detailed and vibrant coloured printed flags I have ever seen . I described my experience with them and how I stuck them to the flag pole over on my Blog, just look up my posts in February and you will see Petes cloth flags, if this is any help to you.

ReplyDeleteDrilling is required followed by a good epoxy. After that, the pikes are not popping off and I enjoy hearing the "twang" when the pike is struck.
Are those pikes 100mm or cut down to a shorter length? The Old Glory figures look really good.
Hi Jonathan, yep, all copper wire pikes are 100mm long and I used drops of super glue to firmly secure the pikes in the hands of the miniatures, thinking of cutting some wire to 70mm length for the standard bearers or will that be to short?

70mm standards seems about right to me and not too short at all. Most of my standards for 25mm troops I cut to 2.5 inches.or so.

Great looking sculpts. The OG figs are definitely very nice - the Pro Gloria of course too. The OG guys look like a good match for early-GW Empire sculpts. Will have to keep this in mind I've I ever get pikemen. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, Old Glory 28's are a hit and a miss regarding to their sculpts, some are bad but the majority of their figure periods i.e. biblical to mid 16th late 17th century are great!
