Napoleonic Saxon Grenadiers

28mm Elite Miniatures:

Here are my Four (16 figures each) Grenadier Battalions: I noticed something interesting about these figures though, The Grenadier and Line Infantry figure sculpts are almost identical to each other, the difference being the Grenadiers have mustaches :o) with red grenade patches on their white Tunic turn backs, where as the Line Infantry figures don't have mustaches! :oP

Preparation of Bases

I was a little surprised & disappointed, after receiving my 28mm Elite miniatures Grenadier packs, the figures have no tall plumes but instead short to mini plumes? The Grenadier figures would have looked better with tall painted red plumes and red cords without shako covers of course....anyway.. umm..my flocking of the bases are of moderate quality.

    1. Thanks Monty!
I started working on my Napoleonic Saxon's mid July - finished the Grenadiers and Line Infantry, currently working on Light Infantry...no Saxon Cavalry figures yet (short on cash :o)

I agree, feels good to work on my Napoleonic 28mm figures for a change of pace and put painting ancients on hold....

      cheers,

  2. Outstanding, Phil! You certainly don't do these in small batches. Very impressive - both quality and quantity.

  4. Phil, these grenadiers are terrific! The combination of Elite's somewhat cartoonish sculpting and your stylish brushwork produce works of art with great character.

  7. Great looking Grenadiers - that should be the entire complement for the army, IIRC!

The Saxon Cavalry is the fun stuff - and outstanding troops as well! They were perhaps the finest cavalry in Europe at the time!

    1. Thanks Pete, I agree Saxon Cavalry were the finest and at their peak in Europe during the Napoleonic Wars...and, as you know, very difficult to find the right 28mm figures to paint.

  8. Very nice Phil, love your work.
Yes the Grenadiers visually would have been better with taller plumes.
But they still look great and on mass.

    1. G'day Thoran, congrats for being my 100th blog follower!
As for my Grenadiers, perhaps I should have used "green stuff" to make my own plumes and attached to the figures shakos, but I couldn't see myself doing that amount of work on 64 grenadier figures.. :o)

Thanks for visiting and for your kind words, much appreciated!

    1. my Saxon Grenadiers still look funny to me without plumes...so..my idea is to drill holes on top of their shakos add on wire use green stuff and design/sculpt my own plumes? :o)

      Thanks Christopher!
      cheers
