On my work bench...I manage to fit in during breaks from other projects paint up these great looking Xyston Persian Mounted General packs ANC20063 I added ANC20068 - Persian Satrapal Guard figures to the stands as Escorts with the mounted Generals. These stands will be part of DBA and Basic Impetves Persian Armies I'm working on.....  :o)

(My apologies for some of the pictures which came out a little blurry)

Outstanding! Great colors and fine detail work. Your detailing on 15s is quite amazing.

Gorgeous Phil, these generals are wonderful...love the details!

Superb painting Phil, the colour schemes are nicely varied, it is easy to think that these figures are much larger than they really are. I particularly like the extra added detailing on the horses, macedonian armour (the pteruges) and persian cloaks.

Again nice job Phil.

Fabulous brushwork, Phil! If not for the fact that I know Xyston is 18mm, I'd have assumed these were 28s.

You have to tell us the story of how or when you crossed over to Impetus. ;-)

Without a doubt these are perhaps the best small scale Ancients I have seen from your brushes Phil, and that's saying something, the details are terrific on all fronts!

They look wonderful! Xyston are best looking for 18mm ancients, but for medieval I think Legio Heroica take the cake.

Funny thing is I'll be doing some 18mm DBA armies using DBA 3.0.:-0 Actually DBA is a great starting point, before eventually building the army up to Impetus size requirements. I couldn't let you have all the fun building pocket armies!:-)

I agree with you Christopher, Legio Heroica miniatures are perfect for Medieval period, AB and Warmodelling Miniatures (Fantassin Miniatures) are great for Napoleonic's... there are so many other great miniatures lines to consider, i.e. 18mm Blue moon Miniatures....

hehehe....lets have a party and "live" and enjoy painting pocket armies...more the better! :o)

I like Basic Impetves Armies/rules have so ever sine they came out for free 2006/7? in BI Venexia Miniatures Army boxes...

cheers,

Thanks Peter, I think my problem painting 28's is that for some reason I cannot paint details on them, don't know why, but with 15s or 18's I can....

looking forward seeing your painted 15/18mm Army! ;o)

cheers,

Thanks Chris, using good quality thin line brushes does help painting such details.....on the wee little figures... :o) I know you are busy working on your Swiss 28's but I hope to see your painted 15/18's as well!

cheers,

Thanks Monty, purchased one basic impetus Venexia Miniatures Maximilian Imperial 1494 - 1518 army box 2006/7? great looking figures still in their bags and I enjoyed reading the free copy of BI rules enclosed and I was hooked! :o) with "small armies"

Great looking Persian/Hellenistic troops, Phil! I always liked Xystons Ancient range, and your brushwork has brought out the very best in them. Warm Regards, Dean

Oooo I like these!

I've been kicking myself for not buying those box sets when they were released as they are now OOP. Best 15mm Italian Wars ever.

BI is fun, but I prefer full Impetus as it addresses some of the holes of BI, but does add more complexity and figure requirements.

BI has extra combat factors to speed up the game, if players accept the structure of BI simple rules (moving shooting melee etc) then they will have fun playing 2 maybe 3 games in one day(great to play quick campaigns). and yes, your right FI has more detail rules which, in my own opinion unnecessary, or perhaps FI is meant to "prolong" the game? :o) just kidding....

I'm looking forward to Impetvs 2 edition...

all the best Christopher!

Great looking Generals; I often have trouble finding suitable figures for commanders in 28mm.
