II/10 Camillan Roman

DBA 3.0

15mm Essex Miniatures

Army Composition: 1 x 3Cv (Gen) 1 x 3Cv, 4 x 4Sp, 2 x 4Bd, 2 x 3Ax or 4Ax, 2 x 2Ps
Only a brave wargamer/player would use this army to fight against Pyrrhus of Epirus 280 BC invasion of Italy! :o)

This Army follows the Tullian Roman (I/59) and is succeeded by the Polybian Roman (II/33), which covers the Punic Wars.

In Italy Rivals:
  • Samnites (II/13): Rome's most formidable Italian rival during the three Samnite Wars.
  • Etruscan League (I/57b): Ancient neighbors to the north, including the fall of the city of Veii in 396 BC
  • Latins (I/55d): Former allies who rebelled during the Latin War (340–338 BC).
  • Italiot Greeks (II/5g): The Greek colonies in Southern Italy (Magna Graecia), such as Tarentum.
  • Hill Tribes: Including the Aequi, Volsci, Umbrians (I/55e), and Apulians (II/8c)

Foreign Invaders:
  • Gauls (II/11): (the Senones) who famously sacked Rome in 390 BC under the chieftain Brennus.
  • Pyrrhic Epirus (II/27b): King Pyrrhus of Epirus arrived in Italy with war elephants in 280 BC and destroyed the Camillan system :o)

I replaced, as I did with the Polybian Triarii elements, the essex lead spears with real :o) steel wire for the Triarii spearmen the figures look a little better. I painted the Auxilia (Ax)  sheild patterns a bit too far or more to the point "over the top" most likely :o) non-historical sheilds! :o)

15mm Republican Roman size comparison

I'm sure 15mm ministures size comparison have been done before, here are 15mm Essex Marian Republican Roman and Old Glory Marian Republican Roman. measured the essex figure from toe/boot to eyes and got about 13.9mm and the Old Glory figure from toe to eyes about 16.5mm Old Glory figures are slightly bigger or as I would say the figures are medium 15s, Essex are small 15s, Xyston figures are large 15s etc...anyway no big deal for me just a thought on 15mm figure comparison.
