Xyston Hellenistic Cavalry

It's no secret that Xyston miniatures are the best to have in one's miniature army for ancient wargaming, great sculpts with a lot detail, easy to paint but a pain in the back side to drill holes through the hands for wire Pikes, Spears and Javelins and some what cumbersome (bulky with some figures) to fit/mount the figures on their bases......anyway...To show you how bored I was after having a few breaks from painting miniatures, I thought I share with these previous painting projects/pictures from the past.....

  2. I am very embarrased, I started writing a comment like "these are my favorites ..." but, in fact, I have no favourite here! All is perfect, from painting to basing...Really, really excellent, with a little preference for the last basing style...

  5. Great horse review! I think I favor the figures, colors applied, and base composition of your Thracian Getic Horse Archers. Excellent work! Xyston figures look to be superb sculpts.

Appreciate you bringing some of your earlier works to the fore.

If you are THAT bored, I could send a box of lead to keep you busy for years. You must promise to send them back painted, of course!

  7. I really like the clean look to your cavalry and also the light straw coloured basing. it looks like you pick out some of the base foliage when you highlight the bases. Where is the foliage from?

    1. Thanks Mark, Xyston Miniatures are great because of the detail on the figures I find them easy to paint and in some cases quickly to paint as well.

  9. Sorry late to the show, splendid paint work Phil, and the 36 mounted figure unit looks very impressive and imposing, which is one of the reasons I hope sometime in future to do a 15mm Swiss pike bloc, a more numerical mass!!!
