28mm Napoleonic Saxons Part 3

I managed to finished off the Saxon Prinz Clement's Regiment today. No dipping/washes on these figures, straight brush on color tones and some dry brushing here and there as I do with my 15mm ancients...anyway... I'm still waiting for my GMB flags to arrive, used a temp-online printed Prinz Clement's flag to see what the regiment would look like. The figures are on 30mm x 40mm this time as a test, haven't really decided which base sizes to use for my 28mm - 30mm Saxon 1810-13 Napoleonic figures :o)

1st figure on the left I used Army Painter strong tone shade/dip
2nd figure used ink wash, 3rd figure no dipping/washes

  1. They look good! They all look good, but with all the white I prefer the no dips/no washes approach.

  4. Each works min its own way. Now you need to do one of the regiments in Yellow and one in Dark Red!

The Saxon Cavalry is an even bigger treat!

  6. I like all three in the last photo, but am a little undecided between the left and the right in the picture.

Personally, I have always enjoyed a black undercoat and building the white up from there.

  9. Great looking troops, Phil. I think the dipped ones look good too, but these do appear brighter.

  10. White is a difficult color to work with but you've got it! It really rocks with the green. I like your experimentation. In a big project, I think its good to do that, and see what you like best.

OH, and I like your 3rd mini the best. This from the guy who lives by the wash.

    1. Hi there Monty, yeah looks like the 3rd figure is the way to go - or perhaps mix the the Saxon Battalions with dark, light AP dipping and plain white painted (no shading) on the figures?......Thanks again Monty!

  12. You've done a great job whichever finish you choose. Personally I prefer the first one, being an advocate of Army Painter quickshade for most things

  13. Thanks Guys! appreciate your thoughts and opinions. I have one more Saxon Line infantry and two grenadier battalions(wearing shako) to paint. Thinking of priming the last Saxon line Regiment white and light yellow on one grenadier battalion and light gray for the second grenadier battalion before starting painting the figures. I will start - continue on this project next week.

also my apologies to every one of you guys for the delay replying to your post messages - thanks again!

    cheers

  15. Nice pictures. Generally I use 4cm x 4cm bases with 4 soldiers each. For Commanders I use round bases to separate standard units with the commanders.

  16. Thanks Mark for your visit and suggestions!
I'm still playing around with base frontage, thinking of placing 6 figures per 40mm x 40mm bases (4-6 bases) to make up and look like a battalion size unit?...I agree with you, leaders on round bases is the way to go!...

    cheers,
